Sunburst Success is a newsletter for small business owners, sole traders, and freelancers in the UK. Every email is packed with tips and features a business goal broken down into actions you can take to set yourself up for success.

⭐ I’m Han, a freelance proofreader based in Winchester. I use my experience of being a sole trader to empower others starting out or wanting to grow their freelance business.

Meet the team

Han’s experience

Starting out as a freelance proofreader in 2021, I began working with small businesses and charities before gaining work with publishers such as Penguin Random House and Bloomsbury. I also launched a separate service in 2024 for indie authors as an authenticity reader, giving my perspective as a neurodivergent non-binary person to help authors feel more confident.

My business was supported by The King’s Trust (formerly The Prince’s Trust) as a member of the Enterprise Programme. Thanks to my mentor, Catherine, I gained enough confidence and knowledge to launch H Noss Proofreads.

I was also a mentee on the 2022 Society of Young Publishers mentorship scheme, supported by my mentor, Rosie, in entering the publishing world.

Alongside my freelance work, I also volunteer as a mentor for the Society of Young Publishers’ LAUNCH stream, and a business mentor for the University of Southampton.
